COUNTABLE AND UNCOUNTABLE


SOME - ANY - A - AN

  • We use SOME + Uncountable or plural countable nouns in affirmative sentences and offers.

                         I have some coffe in the morning.
                         There are some lemons in the fridge.
                         Whould you like some juice?

  • We use ANY + uncountable or plural countable nouns  in questions and negative sentences.
                         Is there any food? 
                         There isn´t any food.
                         Are there any cherries? 
                         There aren´t any cherries.


HOW MUCH? - HOW MANY?

  • We use How Much with uncountable nouns.
                           How much sugar would you like?

  • We use How many with plural countables nouns.
                          How many eggs do we have?


MUCH - MANY - A LOT OF - LOTS OF - (A) LITTLE - (A) FEW

  • We use Much with uncountable nouns.
                           I haven´t got much sugar.

  • We use Many with plural countable nouns.
                           There are many Italians in my neighbourhood.

  • We use a lot of / lot of With uncountable and plural countable nouns.
                           You should eat a lot of fruit.
                           I drink lots of  coffee.

  • We use a little with uncountable nouns.
                           We need a little lemon juice for the cake.

  • We use a few with plural countable nouns.
                           There are a few people waiting outside.

  • We use little with uncountable nouns when there´s not  enough of something.
                          We´ve got very little time.

  • We use few with plural countable nouns when there are not enough of them.
                          There are very few tomatoes left.

COMPARATIVES AND SUPERLATIVES


USE
  • We use the COMPARATIVE FORM of adjectives or adverbs when we comparate two people, animals, things os situations.
  • We use the SUPERLATIV FORM of adjectives when we comparate one person, animal, thing or situation with several of the same kind.

FORMATION
  • The comparatives and superlatives of one-syllable adjectives and adverbs are formed by adding the endings -er and -est.
           cold - colder - coldest
           near - nearer - nearest
  • The comparatives and superlatives of adjectives and adverbs whit three or more syllables are formed with MORE / MOST + adjective/ adverb.
          Interesting - More intersting - the most interesting.
          carefully - More carefully - The most carefully.
  • One-syllable adjectives anding in one vowel + one consonant double the consonant  before the -er / - est.
          hot - hotter - hottest
  • Adjectives ending in a consonant + -y drop the "y" and take  -ier /iest.
          happy - happier - happiest.
  • Irregular Adjectives / adverbs
